DIY Abundance Box
Updated: Dec 14, 2024
There is just something about the chill of autumn and winter that makes me want to put on a huge sweater and do crafts. With this fun little DIY project, you can use a simple empowered container to manifest abundance!
What This Is and What This Isn't
The beauty of these boxes is that they do and do not have a specific intention. It's a "fill in the blank" intention. You are designing it for abundance.
For example:
Put money in to make more money
Put a picture of your friends, citrine, and a friendship charm for more friends
Drop in some lavender, pink Himalayan sea salt, and an eye mask for more relaxation time
See? These are things you want in abundance. So I would not consider this just a manifestation box. If you want to manifest a boyfriend, don't use this box. If you want a cat, don't use this box. So many difficult situations could potentially arise when using a box for "more" when you mean "one".
Additionally, this is what I like to call "lazy" magick. In this sense, "lazy" is not a bad thing. But it does mean that you probably shouldn't use this in a crisis, when you're in a major rush for results, or you're asking for something big. While you do put a fair amount of thought and energy into crafting the box--which will help provide the power needed for it to work--you will also want to tend to it from time to time (charge it with energy, place it under a full moon, cleanse it, change out what's inside, interact with it and make sure it's not collecting dust, etc.), it is still mostly a set-it-and-forget-it spell.
It's good for getting a little extra cash flow and less likely to be successful in getting you a cash windfall to pay to repair the car that just broke down. It's good for driving a few more viewers to your YouTube channel, but less likely to help you create a video that goes viral with a few million views. Those are bigger asks that would typically (but not always) require a bigger, more involved, and more specific ritual or spell. I'm not saying you can't try or that it absolutely won't work, I'm just suggesting you manage your expectations.
Instructions
As always, I am just providing suggestions of what to add to and decorate your box with. Your intuition is your own, you know what symbols pop out to you, and this will serve you best if you get creative with it.
First I am going to decorate the outside of the box. For mine, I chose symbols of growth: flowers, trees, waxing moons, gold, and pumpkins.
Some other suggestions are:
arrows
multiplication or addition symbols
twins, triplets, and so on
spirals
ocean waves
Collaging is just my style. You could also burn etchings into a wooden box, hell you could even carve your own wooden box, solder a metal box, or papier-mâché a container from scratch. It doesn't even have to be a box. It could be a jar, a bucket, the glove compartment in your car!
For the interior, I used some shiny paper as I love the idea of already doubling what I put in the box by giving it a reflection. I also decided to make that appear to be a sky above, soil below, flora all around. This is a garden. Plant one seed, receive a full tree of apples, so to speak.
Again, just because this is the symbolism that felt right for me doesn't mean you need to copy it (although you're welcome to, if you like). If you decide to add anything with thickness such as crystal shards, plastic mirror stickies, dried flowers, etc. just remember that you will also be putting temporary items in it with regular use so be sure not to use up too much depth.
Timing of using the box (adding things/setting a new intention)
As needed
During a new or waxing moon if you work with the moon phases
Monthly change-out on a date of your choosing
The first of the month
The first of the year
On Samhain, Yule, Imbolc, or Ostara
Ritual Steps
Select a small group of items that symbolize what you want. After grounding and centering, place your items in the container. (You can charge each individual item as it goes in if you like.) Meditate on and visualize what you want: What would it feel like to have more of that thing? How would it affect your life? Your emotions? Take your time with this. As I said before, this is lazy magick and you can let it sit for weeks or even months after this and let it do its thing with very little assistance, so take this opportunity to back it with your energy now.
You can place it wherever you like, although I recommend either your altar, a well-lit windowsill, or in a location related to your intention. For example, if you put a pen, three pumpkin seeds, and a piece of carnelian in for more story ideas and inspiration because you're a writer, then place the container near your desk or wherever you do the majority of your writing.
Occasionally you will want to dust it off, charge it up, lend it more of your energy, swap out the items (for the same intention or a new one), and so on. This is especially if you start to feel the magick getting stale. Say you put a dollar in for more money. You got a little extra spending cash flowing in, but that stopped after a few weeks. Well dust it off, swap out the dollar for a five and some change, and ring a bell over it or place it under the full moon for the night or however you like to zest things up. Just be sure to keep giving it attention to feed it energy and keep it thriving.
Feel free to do the same when changing it up completely. If you want to cleanse it between different intentions, you can but it's not entirely necessary.
